Our current healthcare system is flawed!

This is no secret. Our standard healthcare model today waits for us to get sick and go to the doctor just so that we can get prescribed medicine that (hopefully) manages our symptoms. Communication between patient and provider is minimal, leaving patients unhappy and unable to receive the attention they need. Communication between disciplines is also sparse resulting in overmedicating and ineffective care. We are so focused on fixing the immediate problem, that we ignore the overall health of the person. BUT, what if we could change all of that?

Curing does NOT equal Healing.

We can cure a condition with a pharmaceutical product without healing the patient. So, how do we treat the underlying problem? Reducing stress, improving diet, promoting exercise, and increasing a person’s sense of community are proven to facilitate healing and result in lasting health. By healing the body, we can limit the need for pharmaceuticals and reduce the need for a cure.

The philosophy of functional medicine is NOT new…

Functional medicine has been talked about for ages across many disciplines and we are currently experiencing the beginning of a shift toward recognizing the benefits and success of treating and preventing disease through lifestyle management. Functional medicine is healing-oriented and emphasizes patient-provider relationships. It focuses on the least invasive, least toxic and least costly methods to help facilitate health by integrating physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual aspects of the individual.

Standard healthcare will review your symptoms and prescribe medication to suppress them. Functional medicine looks at your symptoms and sees them as clues for understanding the underlying issues within your body.

The best thing about functional medicine is that ANYONE can benefit from it. Whether you are sick with a chronic illness, just feeling a little under the weather, or feel great and want to stay that way, functional based practices can help you.
